a problem and how i solved it

The problem that I am writing about, most likely happens to most of us, the problem I am writing about is that when I do my homework at night, I will always sleep. The process is always like this, my eyelids will start to feel heavy, and I will rest my head on my arm and try to do my homework, and then my mind will become blank as I have already fallen asleep, and for some unknown reason, whenever I have not finished my homework, I will suddenly wake up in the middle of the night to realise that I had fallen asleep and continue it, only to come back to school looking very tired. To make matters worse, we always come back late and when we come back, we feel like sleeping already after a long day in school.
In the past, my mother would tell me to splash water in my face but that does not work for me, also people say that after a shower they would feel more refreshed, however for me after a shower I will always feel like sleeping more, as I would be more relaxed after a shower and thus fall asleep easier. Another way to make me less sleepy, is to make me sit up and do my work instead of lying down and doing my work, although it does help me stay awake, after a while I will still fall asleep even if I sit up and do my work but at a later time compared to doing my work lying down.
Then when I got older my parents allowed me to drink coffee, but like the previous attempts it failed as for some strange reason instead of not being able to sleep, the coffee made me increasingly drowsy. The during my PSLE my mother gave me chocolates and sweets thinking that sugar will help me, but I think what made me stay awake was that my mother was beside me and did not allow me to fall asleep.
I found out how to stay awake last year, accidentally when it was the June holidays and I had just returned from Malaysia, I decided to do my school homework that night, so I would not have to rush to finish my homework at the end of the holiday. I took a bulk of the homework even though I knew that I would not be able to finish it, but to tell myself that there is a lot more homework and that I need to get them down and not to stray off or daydream. When I was doing the homework, I felt hungry so I ate a stick of chewing gum which I bought in Malaysia. To my surprise I manage to finish the homework without even falling asleep halfway, when I thought about it, I realise it was the chewing gum that kept me awake as I was constantly chewing it and that kept me from falling asleep.
To think that chewing gum would be the answer to my staying awake problem is incredible and great news. However it’s quite sad as chewing gum is not sold in Singapore!

Something which i enjoy doing alone

What most people would write for this topic I am sure is playing computer games or their game consoles, I admit I also enjoy playing those things, however I prefer playing them with a friend and not alone. So I can’t use them as the topic for this blog and instead I am going to write about reading which is something which I genuinely enjoy doing alone, I mean who does not prefer reading alone!
The books which I am reading now are by Jeffrey Archer, What I like about his books is that they have cunning plots, silken style and will keep you turning the pages. I remember when I was in kindergarten I was always borrowing books called “Puzzle Osborne book”, in the book you have to solve puzzles or look for clues to progress through the story of the book. The next book that captivated me was the “Tintin” books which my brother introduced to me when I was primary 1. I was so fond of the books that I usually borrowed them more than one just to read it again.
2007 was the year that I got addicted to reading novels. It started when my brother borrowed the book “Skeleton key” (which is part of the Alex rider series by Anthony Horowitz) from his friend as on that day as I had nothing to do and the book had attractive cover, I picked up the book and started to read the book when my brother was doing his home work. I was immediately addicted to the book as it is action-packed and thrilling and full of twists, also some of the books in the Alex Rider series is in our book list and one of the books in the Alex rider has been made into a movie. I quickly progressed through the Alex rider series and started on the Power of five and Diamond brother’s series which is written by the same author as I have three sources to obtain the books, my school library, the National library and the Singapore Polytechnic library as my mother works in Singapore Polytechnic. After I reading finishing the books by Anthony Horowitz, I was craving for more so I moved on to the “Artemis Fowl” series which is also in the book list, after finishing that series too I later progress from the chronicles of Narnia to Harry potter and some other book series.
After PSLE I tried reading “The lord of the rings” books, I managed to read finish “the fellowship of the ring”, but I gave up halfway reading “the two towers” as there was too much talking and they spoke in a strange way and I would not understand what they were talking. During secondary 1 I started reading the “Percy Jackson” series as everyone was reading it, I also started on Agatha Christie murder books introduced to me by my friend Issac, I enjoyed Agatha Christie books very much as her books is filled with mystery and the suspense in the story usually stops you from closing the book. The in December I started on the Jeffrey Archer series which I mentioned earlier as I noticed a few people in class were reading his books.
Which book I will read next, who knows, all I know is that I never will stop reading!

Something that happened in school

Today when we were playing soccer during PE I remembered that Jeremy said that we were going to have a private caning by Mr Chia…
It all happened last week when we were playing soccer during PE. I was a defender for my team and we were all having a fun time. Then we had to fight against another team, this team compared to the previous team were more fierce, better-skilled and all out to win against us. They caught us off guard at the start of the game with their fierce and determined game play and they managed to score a goal. So we then beefed up our defences by stationing ourselves besides the goalpost to try to make scoring virtually impossible. Soon came their onslaught again, and I went up to tackle Marcus who was with the ball, however Marcus tried to do some trick to deter me from getting the ball and as a result instead of kicking the ball, I accidentally kicked Marcus leg. In response he shouted angrily in pain, then he started scolding me and saying that I kicked his leg on purpose, then Daryl joined in and they kept persistently saying that I kicked Marcus on purpose, that we gave in to them and let them have a penalty just for to keep them quiet. In the end they did not score in the penalty, and we lost to them1-0.Later we fought against another team and we managed to beat them 2-0.
Later during recess when we were changing, Daryl told me that Marcus was no longer angry at me for kicking his leg but at Jeremy as Jeremy also kicked his leg just now, and now Marcus was injured with a limp. The next period which was PE theory, Jeremy told me that he was going to have a private caning with Mr Chia as Marcus told Mr Chia about it and said that I maybe would be caned too as I also kicked Marcus. That got me all flustered up as a private caning would mean a black mark in my report book, and that would mean it would affect the choice of my future school!’ Calm yourself down Kai jie” I told myself. “There is no way such a small thing like this would result in a caning, think about it the last time someone got a caning was for bullying and assaulting someone”, I assured myself. After pondering on it for a while, I decided that, that it should not happen and even if it did I would just tell them the truth.
Sure enough, nothing happened and I forgot all about it, until today. When I asked Jeremy if he got any caning, he just smiled and said that it was stupid of him to believe Mr Chia words of exaggeration.

A moment i enjoyed with my family

Last month, my father asked our family if we wanted to go to Wild Wild Wet as his company was giving out tickets for 30 dollars for a charity event. Each ticket consists of two entry tickets to wild wild wet, two meals provided by McDonalds and entrance to the charity event. Me and my brother immediately agreed as we never had been to Wild Wild Wet before and so our father bought two tickets.
Until when he mentioned it last saturday , I had forgotten all about it entirely. I quickly packed the necessary items into a bag and we set out for Downtown East. At Downtown East I noticed a pair of officers patrolling the area, I guess the incident on the hacking of the teenager is still on their minds. At the entrance to the wild wild wet, we were greeted by the organisers of the event, they gave us each a wristband which shows that you have gained entry and to a pair a card which we would understand its use later.
The event was held under two separate canopies at a corner of wild wild wet, what was happening there, is that they were organising game stations and for us to play and win prizes. The stations include mini-basketball, mini-soccer dart throwing, mini-golf , “blind boxing” and a few others. This is where the card which I mention earlier comes into us each card has a number of boxes and when we play a station the station master would  chop on one of the empty boxes and when there are no more empty boxes it would mean we can’t play any more stations. My family decided to split into two groups my brother with my father and me with my mother as only one pair was assigned one card. I went to the “blind boxing” station first as it seemed to be the most interesting and looked easy. However it was not as easy as I thought and I only managed to get the second prize. Later, I progressed through all the games, and it was time for lunch. But then the sky became overcast and it started to pour, the games had to be stopped and we could not get to the sheltered buildings as the lifeguard prevented us from going as there was lighting and it was too far.
So we had to wait until the rain lessen and the lifeguards with umbrellas would guide us to the sheltered buildings. Once we reach there we immediately went to McDonalds to redeem the meals provided by McDonalds. All the “meal” contained was a packet of apples, a can of coke and a cold hamburger. But I should have forseened it as who would be so philanthropic to give such good food for free if they did that they would lose money.
After we finished our “lunch” we decided to go swimming although we had not completed our card as we did not feel like playing the same games again and also the prizes was the same thing. We first went to the “shiok river” which goes through the entire park and has a current which pushes you along, so you can sit on one of the tubes and drift around the park. Next we went to the “Tsunami” which was one of my favourite rides as you can enjoy the waves as you lie back in the tubes. In the next few rides that we took my mother did not come along with us as it was too scary for her. The next few rides which I took was the “Ular-Rah” which was a raft ride and two other slides. The last ride and most probably the scariest of them all was the “slide up” you have to sit on a raft and plunge down a four-storey ramp accelerating until you hit the deck and skimming across to soar on the opposite side, then the process repeats until there is no momentum.
After that we went on some different rides again, went tohave a change and took a cab back home.

Something unusual that happened that day

Well, today was a frustrating day, partly due to the unusual thing that occurred. First of all is that today ended at 4pm and school ended with about a ton more homework.
When I was back home, there my brother was, eyes peeled to the computer, doing his ‘homework’.  What he was actually doing is using facebook and listening to songs in the internet. Sign, it looks like I have to use the lousier computer to do my homework. It took me ten minutes to get the computer up and running, while it takes only one minute to do so for the computer my brother is currently using! While I was doing my work my brother started to sing the song he was listening to. I signed to myself and shook my head as it was my brother was going to have his O levels this year and still has not started to buck up and start studying seriously. My brother who thinks he is king of everything and anything, shouts at the top of his voice in his attempt to intimidate me. But I just sign to myself again and return to my homework. Half an hour later my brother finally finished his homework, when it should only have took five minutes as all he had to do was finalise his work.
He then went to the print his work, and I chuckled to myself as the printer has somewhat been “corrupted” after we had to switch to the refillable ink cartridge. For example when the refillable cartridge is full the printer insists that it is empty and refuses to print.
The last time I tried to use it was to print this year’s timetable, and it failed miserably and I had to ask my parents to help me print in their office. Until today no one has used the printer so I expect my brother will fail like me.
As I predicted cries of anger were soon heard in the room where our printer was located. Then my brother called out for me, something which I did not expect. I went to the room and found out why my brother called out for me. For some unknown reason the printer was printing my timetable over and over again, and my brother was beside the printer, not knowing what to do. When he saw me he started blaming me for what was happening, I immediately shouted to fight for my innocence as, if there something that I hated, it would be being blamed for something that I did not do. “Stop, blaming me and turn off the printer!”, I told him after I sort of calmed down from being blamed.
So my brother had to wait for my father to come back and resolve the problem with the printer, before my brother could continue printing his work, and i managed to have a good laugh as my father came back very late and my brother was already freaking out by the time my father came back as the work he was printing was very important and the due date was tomorrow.
Here is a video on how to refill the refillable cartridge

My first blog:My thoughts about blogging

What I feel about blogging is that it is a waste of time. Why do I feel like this, is because in primary school we had to do some blogs for social study and when I did it, I felt it was boring and a waste of time. Another reason is that when it comes to computers I am like a fish out of water and I type really, and I mean really slow.

Another thing about blogging is the problem about privacy, as almost anyone in the world can read your blog. Also, I read somewhere that blogs are very hard to maintain are very hard to maintain, unless you are someone with all the time in the world.

Another point to take note is that you must be careful of what you post. Firstly, you must make sure that the pictures, videos and songs that you post are not copyrighted or else you will find the police knocking on your door or having to fight it out it court. Secondly, you must not post anything about racial issues or bad things about a country or else you might find a riot at your own doorstep or the police arresting you. One such example, which I heard about from the news, is a foreigner living in Thailand who commented about something about the country in his blog and got arrested.
So overall I feel that blogging is a waste of time, and is also somewhat dangerous, that is if you post the wrong thing.
